Learn to lead and direct the department in producing high quality work in a timely
manner based on customer expected delivery dates. Learn to make data-based
decisions regarding production using metrics based on interpretation of make
ready, run speed, downtime, waste, and rework. Learn to oversee scheduling of
jobs, troubleshoot problems when necessary, evaluate crewing, and maintain equipment.
Promote environment of continuous improvement, teamwork and results aligned
with business direction.
How you will impact WestRock
Provides leadership and high quality customer service in the Finishing Department areas, working closely with employees to produce high quality product.Performs frequent quality checks through the course of the shift.Ensures compliance with all SOPs, work instructions, quality rules and procedures, and GMPs through training and performance management. Ensures all documentation/time sheets are legible and accurate.Addresses both internal and external corrective actions.Ensures departmental meets metrics for downtime, make-readies, run speed, productivity, safety, quality, waste and any other metrics as determined by management.Plans and schedules staffing to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.Sets and manages goals/standards and continuously seeks to close the gap between the current and optimal state.Gathers and reports dashboard metrics.Enters data into the KPI report and discusses daily with department manager.Helps manage direct reports, including but not limited to handing out daily assignments, managing employee performance, providing timely feedback, providing needed resources and training as needed.Identifies and resolves potential safety problems; responds to safety audits.Writes S.O.P’s as needed; submits revision requests and creates temporary work instructions.In conjunction with Human Resources, participates in the interviewing and selection of department personnel.Assists manager with performance reviews and counseling of employees.Maintains and ensures a clean work environment.Communicates with internal departments and customers.Ensures discipline to locked schedule and communicates effectively with scheduling team.Attends training and seminars as requested by department manager or operations manager.Solves problems effectively and acts as a resource to employees.Communicates daily with department manager on progress of department. Performs other job duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must have high school diploma or G.E.D.
Post high school degree preferred.
Minimum of three years’ related experience and/or
training in converting/finishing required.
Must demonstrate strong technical knowledge of finishing/converting
Must have demonstrated strong work ethic and commitment to performing work to a high standard.
Must demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
Must demonstrate math and measurement skills to understand, track, analyze and report on departmental metrics.
Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis.
Must pass color vision and color hue test.
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively manage conflict.
Must be able to quickly adapt to and lead change.
Must be able to learn quickly and manage employees in a fast-moving department.
Must be able to work well in a team environment.
Must be able to coach and train employees.
Must have knowledge of or be able to learn safety rules and procedures, operating, maintenance,
and technical policies and procedures.
Must be reliable and dependable.
