Purpose and Intent

§  A diverse, multi-discipline team fully aligned and in support of WestRock’s Corrugated and Consumer Mill operations.

§  Driven to maximize business results of WestRock’s mill system through collaboration with Mill Leadership and prioritization of assessments, benchmarking, standard processes, and systems to apply resources to the most impactful opportunities and results-based activities.

§  Process Optimization, Reliability, Engineering, Program Management and Business Management Systems driving consistent, data-based decision making to maximize value for WestRock and its shareholders.


Process Optimization

The standardization and leadership of optimization processes implemented across the WestRock’s mill system to maximize asset performance.  Management includes the development, training, support, resource management, and ownership of all performance optimization processes and procedures, and the connection of performance optimization metrics with targeted business results and asset management strategies. 

§  Maximize mill asset performance through development and implementation of operating procedures, assessments of mill operations and action plans to improve asset performance

§  Develop, maintain, improve WestRock's Process Area Improvement tools 

§  Lead audits/assessments focused on operator-level effectiveness and results

§  Develop, maintain, and improve unit of operations process KPI metrics and systems. 

§  Utilize data and benchmarking (vs. Industry, WestRock, and specific mill history) to drive process improvement efforts and prioritize programs 

§  Manage tools, resources, suppliers, planning, development, and execution processes

§  Lead collaboration across mills resulting in programs that implement the best-known practices from industry or individual mills through guidelines, specifications, tools, and resource management 

§  Accountable for mills' effectively implementing programs to provide measurable business results


Paper Mill Process Area

§  Drive and own mission for Paper Mill assets & operations from high-density towers through Finishing & shipping – all WestRock mills and extruder operations.

§  Drive and own mission for optimizing processes, procedures, metrics in Paper Mill area.


How You Will Impact WestRock:

Paper Process Area Specialist within the Process Area Optimization group of Engineering & Manufacturing Services is a key member of the team that leads the collaborative optimization efforts across all of WestRock’s Corrugated and Consumer Paper Mills in the Paper Machine operating area. 

Role Responsibilities

§  Support cultural improvement in safety, inclusion, and engagement by serving as a role model for WestRock Vision/Values/Behaviors.

§  Promote and follow Company and Mill safe work practices and procedures

§  Support Corrugated and Consumer mill goals and guidelines

§  Capable of leading, managing, and overseeing company wide initiatives for the Paper Machine operating area (Winder Optimization/Safety, Paper Improvement Tool, Benchmarking, etc…)

§  Maintaining partnership and effective communications with mill leadership to stay aligned on business drivers and priorities.

§  Lead the implementation of KPIs and management systems that are needed to drive continuous improvement with clear data based decisions.  Accountable for the accuracy and standardization of the KPI’s across mills.

§  Develop, maintain, and improve process area optimization improvement tools in area of expertise.  Create and execute audits and/or assessments based on the guidelines in order to standardize on sound operating practices.  Assessments should be based on operator-level effectiveness and results.  Actively provide guidance, support, and assistance to mills to reduce gaps or opportunities identified in the audits/assessments. Assessments should be aligned/customized to mill priorities and promote mill talent development through collaboration, engagement, and involvement.

§  Provide technical support to mills for capital projects, outages, reliability improvements, and operational optimization.  Assist mills in developing long term capital plans to improve and sustain operations.

§  Collaborate and effectively share knowledge across all mills.  Conduct and support roundtable meetings and conference calls for mill operations personnel in area of expertise.  Foster active conversations in Knowledge Share Database.

§  Continuously stay abreast of new and emerging technologies and disseminate this information to all mills.

§  Investigate alternatives and process designs related to cost savings, increasing capacity, and increasing the efficiency of manpower and equipment.

§  Support reliability programs and projects.  Assist with identifying root cause and implement preventive measures into guidelines.  Share knowledge across all mills. Reliability includes traditional equipment reliability programs and other aspects to be a dependable/consistent supplier to our customers. Improve OEE by promoting shared operations/maintenance ownership, procedure/centerline development and other proactive actions.

Provide and share technical support, resources, and best practices to mills and area individuals to support mill leadership, share knowledge, and reduce communication barriers.
