The opportunity:

The Mill Mechanic performs various maintenance procedures including installation of equipment, troubleshooting, piping and tubing, use of oxy/acetylene torch for cutting and heating and stick welding carbon or stainless steel.  The mechanic is expected to follow plant safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout and perform pre-task checklists.  Typically, a day shift position, overtime may be required to complete equipment repair, perform maintenance on extended machine outages or other requirements that may arise.

How you will impact WestRock:

You will maximize mill efficiency by supporting Operations and Maintenance Teams through participation in the following:

·       Effective first response to unplanned mill shut down situations

·       Equipment/process optimization

·       Planning and executing shutdown activities

·       Supports continuous improvement of preventive maintenance

·       Participate in trouble-shooting efforts to respond to equipment failures and/or process deficiencies

·       Participate in root cause analysis and execution of corrective actions to minimize recurrence of unplanned shutdowns

·       Participate in the safety program for the maintenance department and work to exceed all safety standards and requirements mandated by the plant and OSHA

·       Perform preventative maintenance on equipment

·       Fabricate parts & equipment as necessary

What you need to succeed:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • AS – degree from technical school (related experience may substitute)
  • Minimum of 5 years mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in a heavy industrial setting, or equivalent military experience
  • Understanding of basic piping and tubing requirements including correct fittings, couplings and unions.  Able to cut and thread pipe up to 3 inches for installation
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain motors, drives, couplings, bearings, seals, etc. Maintain mechanical components and perform machine alignments
  • Ability to construct frame and pour concrete for equipment bases
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings for equipment installation and troubleshooting
  • Assist in failure analysis to improve work and equipment performance
  • Able to perform basic stick welding on carbon and stainless steel
  • Able to safety utilize oxy/acetylene torch for heating and burning
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • JDE or similar computer software is a plus
  • Knowledge of paper mill processes and equipment is a plus
  • Physical requirements: Heights, confined space, ability to lift 51 lbs and carry up to 50 lbs
