The Hendersonville Plant is seeking a 2nd shift Maintenance Tech Trainee who will be an integral part of the Maintenance Team. They will perform general mechanical maintenance of facility and equipment in a timely, detailed, and accommodating manner.


How you will impact WestRock


·         Learns to perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

·         Learns to demonstrate knowledge on repair and maintain facility systems (HVAC, chiller, boiler, plumbing, compressed air, and humidification).

·         Learns to demonstrate knowledge to test and treat boiler feed water with specified chemicals.

·         Learns to troubleshoot and resolves mechanical problems and makes repairs as needed.

·         Learns to performing basic welding, brazing, and cutting to fabricate items such as guardrails, brackets, and hangers.

·         Learns to paint and perform minor repairs of building interior and exterior including masonry, wallboard, ceiling tiles, woodwork, etc.

·         Learns to use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments accurately.

·         Learns basic handiwork such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, water and air filters, and plumbing fixtures, cleaning drains, hanging pictures and bulletin boards, and maintaining proper forklift batteries.

·         Maintains the interior and exterior of the building including woodwork and replacing ceiling tiles.

·         Learns to operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, and mills to repair or fabricate machine parts and/or fixtures. 

·         Learns to troubleshoot electric and electronic problems.

·         Learns to perform inspections of and tests fire alarms, pumps and sprinkler system.

·         Maintains accurate maintenance records.

·         Supports various recycling programs such as light bulbs, batteries, and metals.

·         Learns perform maintenance of electrical and electronic components of manufacturing equipment and of facility systems up to 480 volts.

·         Learns to troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems including faulty electric and electronic components such as relays, sensors, switches, and motors.

·         Learns to bend conduit and pulling wire.

·         Learns to install and connect power supply wires to equipment.

·         Assists facility technicians and machine repair technicians on projects.

·         Learns to perform facility repairs with minimal supervision.                                                   

·         Learns to perform plumbing repairs and runs air lines.                

·         Uses grounds equipment to remove snow and ice.  Assists with other grounds tasks as needed.

·         Learns to operate scissors lift and fork lifts.

·         Learns to maintain inventories of items such as steel, paint, filter, and belts.                       

·         Learns to process purchasing and inventory paperwork.

·         Learns to demonstrate knowledge to maintain batteries and chargers for fork trucks.

·         Runs errands outside of facility as needed.

·         Must be willing to travel.  Trainee will spend time training at other facilities.

·         Must be willing to relocate when a permanent position comes available

·         Performs other job duties as assigned.


What you need to succeed


  • Must have high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a working knowledge of AC/DC motors.
  • Must be trained in basic electric and mechanical safety.

·         Must be willing to travel.  Trainee will spend time training at other facilities.

  • Must be open to relocation
  • Must learn to read schematics, prints, ladder diagrams, and drawings.
  • Must learn to interpret national electrical code.
  • Must acquire a working knowledge of various sensors, hand and small power tools, AC/DC motors, and of programming computers and PLCs.
  • Must have the ability to meet and/or pass the minimum requirement on a mechanical test or have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior work experience.
  • Must have some basic computer experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the safe use of hand and small power tools.
  • Must pass color vision and color hue tests.
  • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed and during busy periods overtime may be excessive.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
