Safety Coordinator

This position is responsible for supporting, motivating and fostering a safety-conscious culture in the workplace.   He/she promotes the continuous improvement of facility safety and health systems to result in the reduction of accidents and illness, the assurance of regulatory compliance, and to make safe behaviors part of day-to-day thinking. 

This position will be ideal for a floor-oriented people person who knows safety, OSHA, etc, and enjoys working with people to make a safety program come alive.  The right candidate will understand how to implement and sustain a safety management system utilizing our team concept model.   They will have the patience and commitment to work “hands on” to help the entire team understand the company's commitment to safety, the need to follow the safety programs and champion our employee led safety culture. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for regulatory assessments and efforts to maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations
  • Support the implementation of the annual safety plan and the WestRock Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws, regulations, licenses, permits and ordinances pertaining to health and safety.
  • Provide tactical oversight of safety and health programs (including but not limited to Ergonomics, HazCom, Hearing Conservation, Incident Investigation and Wellness)
  • Responsible for helping to lead, motivate, and foster a safety-conscious culture in the workplace to reduce incidents and injuries.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and safety inspections of the facility and initiate corrective actions to eliminate hazards and promote a safe work environment
  • Develop effective safety communications utilizing various methods
  • Administrate health and safety plans and training programs
  • Support and facilitate employee engagement to drive safety excellence.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents, determine root cause factors, and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence
  • Develop task-specific job safety analyses for work performed at the facility
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding environmental health and safety
  • Provide innovative safety solutions and ideas
  • Have the patience to work “hands on” to help the entire team understand the company’s commitment to safety and help employees live the principals of SafeStart 24/7.
  • Other duties as assigned

Credentials:

  • Bachelors Degree in Health/Safety or Engineering/Technical is preferred
  • Associates degree and 3+ years with direct safety responsibility experience in industrial manufacturing required.
  • CSP or SHE Certification preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations and industry requirements
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office software
