Manager, Lease Accounting – Sandy Springs, GA

 

The opportunity:

WestRock is seeking to fill a Global Lease Accounting Manager position in Sandy Springs, GA. This newly created role will partner with the Technical Accounting, Facilities and Procurement teams to establish and maintain tracking and reporting processes, controls and technology to ensure compliance with the new Lease Accounting Standard (ASC 842). 

 

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Lease Accounting.

  • Partner with Technical Accounting to set policies and procedures for lease tracking and accounting.

  • Play a key role in building the process and controls to comply with ASC 842, including developing and maintaining a repository of lease agreements and key contractual terms to facilitate reporting requirements.

  • Help lead the design and implementation of the lease accounting application, CoStar and Visual Lease.

  • Partner with the Financial Systems team to administer CoStar and Visual Lease and maintain appropriate master data controls.

  • Liase with procurement team to develop processes to ensure the completeness and accuracy of lease records in CoStar and Visual Lease.

  • Work directly with the Treasury function to ensure discount rates in CoStar and Visual Lease are updated

  • Manage the monthly close process for leases, ensuring the required journal entries are recorded and providing the information required for financial disclosures.

  • Assist in drafting SEC financial disclosures on quarterly and annual basis.

  • Work with Internal Audit and Financial Compliance to develop and implement relevant internal controls

  • Develop key performance metrics to monitor the quality and accuracy of the lease accounting process.

  • Create and lead policy, process and tool training for key stakeholders.

  • Lead regular communication with senior leadership to ensure effective change management

  • Lead external auditors through testing and auditing of the Lease Accounting Standard

  • Ensure adherence to process and accurate completion of all work

  • Review new lease agreements for appropriate accounting treatment.

  • Ensures that account reconciliations are prepared and reviewed timely and in accordance with accounting policies

  • Partner with key stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.

  • Support internal business partners on lease accounting aspects and be a point of reference for questions pertaining to lease accounting

  • Partner with Internal Audit to ensure the right control environment is maintained for lease accounting

  • Responsible for integrating acquisitions into the WestRock process and systems.

     

    What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience with a large company, ideally with fixed asset or lease accounting experience.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills with an emphasis in Excel

  • ERP systems experience. Comprehensive understanding of a various integrated financial and accounting systems.

  • Proactive/self-driven work habits with demonstrated ability to lead change and improve processes.

  • Problem solving/analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of FASB and SOX compliance

  • Ability to research technical accounting issues and propose solutions

  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communications capabilities;

  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to adapt to a changing and fast-paced work environment

  • Must be flexible and able to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines

  • Strong organizational skills
