The Opportunity:

The financial analyst position will be responsible for supporting the home office departments.  A main responsibility is assisting the Corporate FP&A Manager with understanding P&L variances, provide home office department leaders with monthly reporting, support the forecasting and the annual budget process in addition to helping the department leaders drive out costs.  The analyst will be a main facilitator regarding home office allocations to the businesses.  The role requires a well-rounded skillset, including maturity to interact with senior executives and maintain confidentiality, strong analytics, curiosity to investigate variances and accounting treatments on your own, and the drive to improve current reporting.  The role provides an excellent opportunity to interact with the Company’s senior leadership team, have visibility with the SVP of Finance and CFO and gain a high-level perspective of the company.  The Corporate Financial Analyst will report to the Director, Corporate FP&A and work closely with the Corporate FP&A Manager. 

 

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Provide analytical support for Home Office departments such as Accounting, Treasury, Human Resources, Legal and Corporate Communications among others

  • Prepare and distribute financial reporting packages to executive leaders

  • Assist in the development of procedures and processes to improve financial reporting

  • Build and maintain working relationships with executive leaders and provide a high level of support

  • Assist executive leaders with the quarterly forecast process

  • Support executive leaders with the development of their annual budgets including assisting them with presentations for the CEO

  • Challenge the forecast and budget assumptions used by department leaders to assist with driving out costs

  • Develop and maintain corporate financial bridges for monthly and quarterly reporting

  • Understand and maintain the allocation rules to allocate corporate costs to the business segments

  • Develop knowledge of WestRock financial account structure and financial systems

  • Proactively seek out ways to improve and streamline processes

  • Tackle ad-hoc assignments and projects as required my management

     

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • One to three years of relevant accounting or financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting experience

  • Advance skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Hyperion SmartView and JD Edwards

  • Proactive attitude – desire to improve and streamline processes

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to interact and form relationships with high-level executives

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Curiosity to investigate variances, dig into accounting treatments, and refine forecast processes

  • Strong problem-solving skills, passion for improvement, and enjoy working in a team/collaborative environment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Possess potential to advance into a leadership role
