Engineering Manager

JOB PURPOSE:
To lead the Engineering department in complying with all H&S responsibilities, legal compliance and the maintenance management of a complex machinery across 3 production areas. Working closely with the CI Manager the role will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement activities across the site ensuring that production lines run to optimum efficiencies and customer service standards remain high.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coaching and development of the Engineering Team including the production of skills assessments, development plans and training plans
  • Introduction of TQM / TPM strategy across the site to turn us into a world class manufacturing site
  • Direct and manage multiple concurrent engineering projects while ensuring their success in meeting their respective objectives from Capex plans to delivery, installation and training in conjunction with the CI Manager
  • Implement approved engineering budgets and monitor actual expenses to ensure they fall within budgets, analyzing out of budget expenses and ensuring they are offset in other areas of the project unless fully justified
  • Consult or negotiate with clients to finalize engineering project specifications
  • Negotiate with 3rd party engineering suppliers to get the best business deals
  • Present engineering plans, progress and status updates to project stakeholders
  • Review and approve proposed engineering designs and subsequent product and process enhancements or changes
  • To ensure, using the company agreement and flexible working that manning is available to cover all shifts requested
  • Manage the maintenance and repair process of all services and assets on site including the production lines, taking into account priorities in terms of customer service demands
  • Identify improvement opportunities to reduce Engineering budget
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency and process improvements reducing breakdown frequency through root cause analysis
  • To ensure access and requisition of spares, with spares kept at minimal safe operating levels
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed across the site
  • Working with relevant legislation and standard agencies to proactively raise standards across the site
  • Managing the use of contractors where necessary for specialist repair and maintenance, ensuring induction to site is completed at all times
  • Ensuring relevant updates are provided to the daily production meeting
  • To provide technical assistance and support to all areas of business when required
  • Any other tasks which are within your capability, required by the company to enable company objectives to be met

QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational and professional:

  • Recognised technical qualifications (e.g. HNC, HND or higher)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience 
  • Knowledge of mechanical & electrical engineering / technology include pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Knowledge of building and construction
  • Print machine experience
