The Design Engineer position is responsible for working closely with the prototype or model shop in creating of products by engineering solutions in the form of 3D computer models. PERMANENT, RETAIL, POP, DISPLAY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Design retail store fixtures; sheet metal, wood or plastic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
· Creates engineering drawings for the purpose of building prototypes and instruction sheets through the use of hand sketches and/or computer generated models.
· Transition projects from concept to production using innovative techniques, materials, and processes.
· Works closely with internal sales, design, estimating, marketing, model shop, production and project management to create prototypes representing the final production quality which can function as working engineering specifications.
· Partner with clients, agency vendors, and others involved in the development and implementation of projects.
· Discuss manufacturing ides, feasibility, timeliness, and costs of designer’s concept with internal stakeholders.
· Create costing information and provides cost/manufacturing analysis.
· Routinely gives presentations to clients and internal groups.
· Researches and investigates competitive displays and solutions in order to improve on the final engineering solution.
· Must be able to work the required number of hours to ensure successful project completion.
· Some travel required to meet with prospective and current clients.
· Will attend workshops for professional development or to gain knowledge on new materials or manufacturing techniques.
· Required to periodically lead meetings and make presentations.
· Responsible for the overall Safety and cleanliness of equipment and area.
· Work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor Degree in Engineering OR equivalent experience.
The position requires 3 - 7 years of relevant engineering and/or design experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Must come from permanent retail POP display industry.
Manufacturing background a plus
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. May require the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), engineering software, Adobe design software and Internet-based applications (such as Live Meeting).
The Design Engineer must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; as well as excellent leadership, organizational, time management, and project management skills. The position requires a strong understanding of engineering specifications for the purpose of generating estimates, prototypes, and production. They must have a solid understanding of industry trends, finishes, materials, and manufacturing processes. The position requires knowledge of common materials used in display engineering, including injection molding, vacuum forming, and rotational molded plastic, metal, wire, and wood. The candidate must have the ability to incorporate critical thinking skills to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues.
