How You will impact WestRock

  • Support the Technical Lead’s work streams of new product development projects for WRK’s Corrugated Segment by researching, testing and developing new and improved manufacturing process and product concepts.

  • Learn to lead R&D/Innovation projects (internal and external) as part of multifunctional project teams to meet needs of the corrugated board segment.

  • Work with various business units and operations within the segment to address relevant innovation and technical service projects as part of the relevant team.

  • Gain experience in developing test plans, executing test protocols and analyzing/interpreting test results to resolve adhesive (labels, pressure sensitive, hot melt) issues with WRK internal and external customers.

  • Develop competency with 3D modeling (SolidWorks), 3D scanning/printing, for development of tools/prototypes for new product development research and testing.

    What You need to succeed

  • Engineering/Technical Degree (Packaging, Paper Science, Mechanical) with experience in the paper, paperboard or packaging industry preferred.  Will consider other related experience.  4-year technical degree required. 

  • Basic understanding of material properties, in terms of measurement, control, and how they relate to end-use performance.  Physical testing, experimental design and data analysis experience is required. 

  • Experience in paper and packaging, paperboard manufacture, converting, and package end-use is preferred.

  • Experience with 3D drawing and modeling desired. 

  • 3D scanning and printing experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated expertise at working with diverse teams to implement solutions, especially in operational settings.

  • Business acumen as relates to new product development (understanding of value propositions, business cases, financial metrics)

  • Strong Interpersonal communication skills

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
