The opportunity:

The Power Plant Superintendent has the overall responsibility for the direction, maintenance and operation of the Seminole Mill Powerhouse department which provide steam, electricity, compressed air, and water to produce paper at the Mill in a safe, economical, environmentally friendly manner to insure a high-quality product.  

This position reports directly to the mill General Manager.


Job Function:

  • Plan, organize and direct the boiler utility activities, including operation and utility maintenance of boiler facilities; ensure the delivery of steam is sufficient to meet forecasted demand of the paper machines.

  • Direct and oversee capital improvement projects relative to scope, complexity, and cost implications, including review of significant issues with developers and engineers and consultants.

  • Prepare and implement budgets and business plans. Make recommendation forecasting additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; administer the approved budget.

  • Provides technical expertise to the crews as needed to assist in the troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues

  • Recommend the appointment of personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; implement discipline procedures as required; maintain discipline and high standards necessary

  • Develop and implement short and long term operational goals, work processes, and policies/procedures; communicate all changes plant-wide.

  • Promotes the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions and recommends measures to reduce or eliminate accident and health hazards in compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate regulations.

  • Responsible for the safety and compliance of the Powerhouse function.

  • Lead employees in daily job performance to have a safe work environment.

  • Monitor powerhouse operating measures to continue proper operation.

  • Coordinate equipment downtime to minimize production curtailment.

  • Maximize economical usage of fuel to provide utility services.

  • Provide direction and organization for tasks performed by Power personnel.

  • Troubleshoot operating problems.

  • Organize and provide time for Job progression training.


What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from 4-year college/university; or 5 or more years related experience and/or training

or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Competent with Microsoft Office, PI, and Statistical Software
  • Capable of representing WestRock to our customers
