Operations Excellence Manager- Consumer Mills – Stroudsburg, PA

The Operations Excellence Manager is expected to lead the site Performance Excellence System (PeX) at the given mill/extrusion plant.  This position is expected to deliver measurable improvements at the site with a 100% actively engaged workforce.  The site is expected to deliver incremental financial results between $1,000,000 and $30,000,000 (depending on site COGS – Cost of Goods Sold). This is an exceptional opportunity to establish a reputation for outstanding performance with a career goal of moving into higher levels of management responsibility within 2-4 years. 


              How you will impact WestRock:

  • Passionate and ability to lead the mill or extrusion plant’s Performance Excellence Engagement including the cultural and operational transformational elements (Site expert for TeamTrek, ACT (Accountable Communication Training), Site Readiness Assessment, Pre-Implementation Training, Engagement / Go Live, and Effectiveness Review for Performance Sustainability)

  • Lead monthly Operations Excellence Steering Committee meetings

  • Works with and develops PE pillars, sub pillars and pillar members in alignment with the mill steering team and WestRock Performance Excellence System

  • Ability to set up Site Infrastructure requirements that lead to consistent WestRock Performance Excellence System (PeX) across company

  • Provide leadership as the mill champion/point of contact for all Operations Excellence matters 

  • Shares capital planning responsibilities with the Early Equipment Management pillar

  • Leads Site Productivity projects that results in 3.5% Continuous Improvement as a Percent of COGS (Cost of Goods Sold)

  • Assists various department leaders in transitioning to a 100% actively engaged workforce

  • Ability to define, collect, & analyze performance data and charts against specific parameters

  • Maintains awareness of business context and company profitability, including budgetary control issues

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a robust project pipeline for Site Productivity Projects

  • Lead Productivity improvement projects/ initiatives in manufacturing

  • Ability to influence others that lead to positive behaviors and results for the Site

  • Provides assistance to the General Manager and Others as requested

  • Interfaces effectively with customers as required

              What you need to succeed:

  • BS/BA degree in Engineering or Paper Science, MBA a plus

  • 5 to 10 years work related experience in a mill / plant manufacturing environment and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with process improvement and Six Sigma is a must. If not already Lean Six Sigma trained, be willing to attend and achieve certification within one year (company paid)

  • High level of integrity and professionalism that commands respects from senior leadership, site leadership, site employees, and peers

  • Understanding team based management principles and vision and can clearly communicate / apply in daily practice 

  • Passion and sense of urgency for executing performance improvement projects and leveraging best practices across the organization

  • Project Management experience leading large projects or multiple client projects.

  • Demonstrated leader who can effectively challenge all levels of the company, influence and build consensus within the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to use, teach and coach others on PeX, statistical, analytical, facilitation, and change acceleration tools

  • Detail knowledge of mill/plant operations is required

  • Must have a very good knowledge of all MS (Microsoft) Office applications and ability to develop training/meeting material

  • Strong attention to detail with ability to lead others that clearly advance the mill/plant to exceed expected goals

  • Continuous Improvement tools knowledge and demonstrated experience

  • Be willing and able to grow into greater roles of responsibility and mill / plant management
