The Opportunity:

The Department Manager, Clinton, IA, is responsible for safety, personnel, quality, production, equipment, and all other activities occurring in or related to the finishing department.



Help develop safety rules, procedures, and proactive measures to ensure a safe working environment.

Hold employees accountable for working within the rules and proactively identifying and removing hazards.

Report any and all near misses, incidents, first aid rendered, or unsafe working conditions to the Plant Manager and Safety Manager immediately without exception.

Responsible for the safety and well-being of self and employees.

Be an active participant supporting the safety pillar teams.



Coach, train, develop, and guide department employees.

Resolve conflict between employees and maintain good working relationships inside the department.

Organize crewing and job assignments of employees in the department.

Engage and empower employees to reduce hazards, improve quality, and increase efficiency through team building and inclusion.

Understand and follow all applicable rules, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws related to human resource activities.

Work with local and area HR Managers and other plant management as appropriate for a-f above.



Ensure all quality procedures and equipment are maintained and being used appropriately.

Work with Quality Manager and other employees to improve quality in the department.

Utilize Lean Six-Sigma methodology to eliminate defects.



Safety always takes priority over production.

Support daily department production efforts as needed.

Establish production goals, standards, and metrics for the finishing department, and communicate expectations to department employees.

Monitor production schedule and collaborate with plant scheduler to ensure efficient use of resources, both personnel and equipment.

Manage finishing supply inventories, such as glue, tape, parts, etc…

Maintain product safety.

Drive continuous improvement efforts.


Maintenance & Equipment

Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment, including part orders, preventive/predictive maintenance, emergency maintenance, and outside contractor efforts.

Responsible for the safe continuous operation of all equipment in the finishing department.

All equipment will be kept in good repair and cleaned to be suitable for food contact packaging.



Oversees and delegates housekeeping duties in assigned area.

Responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the plant.

What You Need to Succeed


Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

5+ years experience in manufacturing department leadership

Strong verbal and written communication skills required to exchange information with diverse types of personnel, customers and vendors

Demonstrated success at managing a fast pace, highly transactional production operation

Demonstrated sound executive judgment and keen business acumen that includes strategic thinking

Proven ability to lead and guide others through high performance and participative management

Proficient with MS Office.
