GENERAL PURPOSE:  Develop and implement programs and procedures to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace incidents, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations, ordinances and laws, and support a safety culture through training, risk assessments, and behavior based safety programs for three locations.


•Directs and plans essential central services such as, maintenance, cleaning, waste disposal and recycling.

•Responds appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.

•Prepares, reviews, revises and maintains safety and health programs, conducts training for environmental, health and safety programs and topics as required by state/federal laws.

•Coordinates safety and environmental activities under the supervision of the plant manager with guidance from the Corporate Social Responsibility Director

•Ensures that all OSHA and Environmental agency (Federal, state and local) requirements are met.

•Ensures that all incidents and injuries are properly investigated and that corrective actions are assigned and completed

•Ensures that new employees, including temporary employees, receive general and specific environmental, health and safety training and that employees receive continued training and education consistent with the regulatory required programs.

•Facilitates and participates in monthly Safety Committee Meetings and facility inspections, documents & posts meeting minutes and tracks written action items to completion.

•Ensures that all company required programs, initiatives and processes are maintained at a level that meets or exceeds company values and requirements.

•Orders and stocks safety and first-aid supplies.

•Prepares monthly EHS reports for the Plant Manager and Corporate Social Responsibility department.

•Performs other duties as assigned.


•Must have high school diploma or G.E.D. and three years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university or college and at least one year of relevant experience.

•Must have the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary group and be a team leader.

•Must have knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

•Must have a thorough knowledge of record keeping requirements for injury reporting.

•Must have the ability to plan, develop and conduct training sessions and programs regarding safety issues and promotion.

•Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization.

•Must have intermediate PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products. 

•Must have strong organizational and project management skills.

•Must be reliable and dependable.

•Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
