Safety & Health Specialist - Atlanta, Georgia

The Opportunity:

The Safety & Health Specialist reports to the Vice President of Safety & Health and will be primarily responsible for providing safety and health data analysis to prevent injuries in WestRock’s global operations, including identifying leading and lagging indicators, tracking safety performance trends, and identifying opportunities for improving safety performance.  Additionally, you will participate in special safety projects, conduct safety audits, assist with incident investigations, provide technical safety assistance to facilities, and deliver safety & health training. 

 

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Manage the web-based safety incident data collection and reporting system for the corporation

  • Develop monthly and other periodic safety & health reports

  • Coordinate safety & health data and reporting to internal and external stakeholder groups, including Human Resources and Workers’ Compensation partners

  • Assist in creating electronic databases and dashboards to capture and report key safety & health metrics

  • Continuously improve safety & health data quality by helping to develop a robust safety analytics program, including trending, incident forecasting, and tracking leading and lagging indicators

  • Maintain the safety & health department’s intranet and Sharepoint sites

  • Provide technical S&H assistance to WestRock facilities, e.g. machine guarding, incident reporting & recordkeeping, incident investigation, fall protection, etc.

  • Assist with education & training sessions and participate in S&H audits


What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field

  • 3-5+ years’ experience in safety & health

  • Experience with Process Map or similar safety incident reporting systems

  • Advanced skills using Minitab, and the Microsoft suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other databases; QlickView proficiency is a plus.

  • Knowledge of safety & health laws and regulations

  • Accuracy and attention to details

  • Experience in analyzing data to draw business-relevant conclusions and in data visualization techniques and tools

  • Strong communication, presentation, training and facilitation skills are essential

  • Exemplary customer service skills and attention to detail
