 Career Opportunity

The Human Resources Generalist provides a variety of human resources generalist support including recruitment/employee selection, employee relations, compensation administration, human resources policies, regulatory compliance, retention, workforce planning, equal employment and training and development for assigned functions or location(s).  Usually works with minimal supervision.  Reports to a Director, Human Resources and supports HR Business Partners (HRBP’s) and multiple functional or business areas (corporate functions and Recycling). 

How You will impact WestRock

  • Supports the recruitment and selection processes and works in partnership with the hiring managers and HRBP’s to select top talent for open positions; may include supporting assessment requests and collaboration with mobility manager. 
  • Responsible for initiating and executing the new hire and onboarding processes, to include reviewing background checks and ensuring consistent onboarding experiences.
  • Provides advice and counsel to employees and management on human resources policies, and company policies to promote understanding, minimize conflict, and resolve issues.
  • Partners with management and the HRBP’s on employee relations matters, performance or disciplinary issues, to include investigations, documentation, counseling and guidance, and follow-up, ensuring legal and company compliance.  May include employee complaints, EEO issues, etc.
  • Supports talent development efforts, to include mentoring, performance management processes, talent review processes, engagement surveys, training, and others.
  • Supports talent movement efforts, to include organization design support, compensation-related requests for promotions and new hires. 
  • Supports Diversity & Inclusion efforts, to include the Employee Resource Groups
  • Acts as a Benefits champion
  • Conducts exit interviews, provides analyzes data and provides recommendation to the HRBP’s or Managers; may initiate or execute the exit and termination processes.
  • Manages and support the separation pay process, to include working closely with legal; provide coaching and guidance to managers.
  • May assist with managing and processing transactions in the human capital systems, to include updates to employee’s job records ensuring changes are made timely and the system is accurately maintained.
  • Supports HRBP’s with other projects, programs, and processes as assigned.

 What You need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline
  • 5+ year’s professional experience in a fast-paced environment, providing general HR support and administering policies and procedures, preferably supporting client groups
  • Broad knowledge of employee relations, employment law and general HR policies and procedures, organization development & planning, talent development consulting and compensation / rewards. 
  • Strong verbal and written communications and proven ability to build and maintain strong partnerships at all levels, across multiple areas and geographies
  • Strong computer skills
