Sr. Manager, Tax Compliance – Norcross/Sandy Springs, GA

The opportunity:

The Sr. Manager, Tax Compliance will be responsible for corporate local, state, and federal income tax compliance procedures. The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:


How you will impact WestRock:

  • The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for the review of local, state, and federal tax returns and related reports with assistance from the company’s tax advisors.

  • Work closely with the Tax Accounting group to ensure proper reporting and integration of the provisions and compliance processes.

  • Establish new procedures and processes in the department and drive constant improvement and identify efficiency opportunities.

  • Work to minimize tax liability through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations permitting alternative treatment of taxable items.

  • Calculate quarterly federal and state estimated income tax payments.

  • Maintain tax compliance calendar, ensuring timely completion and filing of all scheduled items.

  • Keep current on new tax legislation and court decisions to determine effect on the company.

  • Working with the accounting group and outside advisors, ensure that all fixed asset reporting, including depreciation, gains/losses and AMT, and asset location are computed and included properly on all returns.

  • Establish “best practices” and share information across the company.

  • Collaborate with other departments on new projects and initiatives requiring tax planning or tax research as it relates to tax compliance impacts. Assist with tax related M&A and with integration and tax restructuring initiatives as required.

  • The Senior Tax Manager will perform other tax projects and analysis as needed.


What you need to succeed:

  • The Senior Tax Manager will have 7+ years’ experience; public accounting experience required.

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects effectively in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to meet internal and external deadlines and deliver work product accurately and timely.

  • Strong decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Thorough technical knowledge of US tax rules and accounting for income taxes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization. Liaison with operating and commercial management on tax issues and accounting staff on tax accounting issues.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and experience with tax software.

  • The Senior Tax Manager will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Tax, with a Master’s degree preferred.

  • Familiarity with OneSource platform of software offerings a plus.

  • CPA preferred.
