Senior Accountant – Norcross, GA (will be based in Sandy Springs from February 2018)

Career Opportunity:

The Senior Accountant is a key member of WestRock’s Home Office and performs a critical role in the financial reporting activities of the Corporate Accounting team. These activities include reporting on restructuring, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and review of certain sections within the consolidated balance sheet. This role reports to the Home Office Controller and has no direct reports. Currently this role is based in Norcross but will be re-locating to Sandy Springs in February 2018 (along with the entire Home Office Accounting team).  

 

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Performs a lead role in the month-end close and other accounting/reporting activities for the Home Office.

  • This role provides good exposure to WestRock’s senior management and an opportunity to collaborate and partner with various Corporate and Divisional finance and accounting teams within the company.

  • Manages the accounting and reporting for Restructuring.  This requires an in-depth understanding of the management accounting, tax, and financial reporting impacts as well as a deep understanding of the organizational structure of the entire company and inter-company processes.  This will also require liaising with various teams within the company to obtain the necessary information required to prepare a detailed commentary on key balances for presentation to senior management.

  • Prepares the Restructuring reporting package for publication and integration into Audit Committee schedules. 

  • Processing of invoices (in JD Edwards) to other companies within the organization for inter-company fees, costs and other cross charges.

  • Analyzes a home office department which has costs for all expats and ensuring those costs are appropriately reconciled and cross-charged to other divisions on a monthly basis.

  • Assists in analyzing certain sections of the consolidated balance sheet and liaise with various teams within the company to provide detailed commentary on material movements.

  • Analyzes activity in P&L and balance sheet accounts, record journal entries and ensure detailed support is included for all entries posted.

  • Responsible for working with certain Home Office departments in analyzing their monthly accruals to ensure appropriate accounting and provide training/guidance as needed.

  • Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations of greater complexity, requiring the ability to understand the purpose of the accounts and perform a detailed analysis of reconciling items ensuring the accounting treatment is appropriate.

  • Other duties, tasks and projects as may be assigned from time to time.

 

What you need to succeed:

  • Advanced MS Excel skills as well as familiarity with JD Edwards, Hyperion, and similar data retrieval systems.

  • High level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • Strong communications skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters degree or CPA will be a big plus.

  • Exposure to finance and planning activities in a large organization will be a big plus.

  • 5 + years of relevant experience
