Career Opportunity

Manage the commercial structure and practices within a component across Labels and Inserts.  Deliver a high level of commercial accuracy and awareness, implementing margin improvement initiatives to increase opportunity for margin recovery, cost reduction and profit improvement. Lead/oversee new business introductions and coordinate commercially sensitive customer projects. Establish and manage a consistent structure for customer information recording and training.  Represent the product group commercially and technically for the sales teams as a consistent key point of contact.  Promote the product capabilities leading to increased focus on added value sales growth and product development.

How you will impact WestRock 

  • Proposes and develops plans for margin improvement initiatives by product type within the component range.
  • Defines commercial recovery targets on price and margin in conjunction with sites.
  • Leads implementation of commercial audits and regular reviews for maximum benefit.
  • Defines charging approach per site/customer, implementing a regular review process for changing circumstances.
  • Defines cost and price targets aligned with site profitability targets.
  • Participates in the development of a cost model by component.

  • Participates in cost rate benchmarking for best commercial opportunity on margin within the component.

  • Maximizes the integration of purchasing cost saving opportunities and monitors benefit to cost level with Purchasing.

  • Defines and implements margin assessment processes by site, customer and product, investigating and formulating margin improvement initiatives and prioritizing implementation for maximum benefit and quick return.

  • Advises sales team of minimum price and margin level on inquiries and tenders.

  • Monitors conversion rates of price offers to business won and proposes solutions to achieve better competitiveness/best margin by product considering marked price and customer positioning.

  • Develops consistent pricing approach for existing customers and bids.

  • Manages the bid process liaising with sales and estimating department in order to generate most competitive cost solution through consultation with site management, and VP if necessary.

  • Trains Customer Service where appropriate on interpretation and application of price lists.

  • Interfaces with commercial analyst to ensure bids are effective.

  • Interfaces directly with estimating so that estimates are accurate and effective and represent the cost structures of the plants and material.

  • Defines site level commercial responsibilities for price accuracy, charging policy implementation and awareness of commercial strategy as appropriate.

  • Develops commercial training program for appropriate skills training within the component structure.

  • Participates and controls technical developments across the component sites to maximize added value opportunities.  Ensures cost and price consistency is aligned to any technical development.

  • Provides input into a strategic direction for standardization and technical development that satisfies both our customer and operational requirements.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed

  • Must have three years (large site) to five years (small site) of relevant commercial/sales management experience.

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferably in Accounting, Business, or Finance.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of budget management and key drivers.

  • Must have high level of confidence in promotion and selling skills.

  • Must have communication/presentation/negotiation skills.

  • Must have customer relationship building and project management skills.

  • Must have commercial/financial awareness of margin recovery drivers.

  • Must have excellent knowledge of the business/product range and capabilities/manufacturing process/information systems.

  • Must have advanced Excel skills.

  • Must demonstrate numerical/verbal reasoning skills.

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
