Senior Accountant – Sandy Springs, GA

The opportunity:

  • The Senior Accountant position performs a supporting role in the month end close for the Corporate Home Office.  Many of the responsibilities must be completed with a high degree of accuracy, under tight deadlines, and require the ability to work independently at a fast pace in an evolving and demanding business environment.

  • The Senior Corporate Accountant position is responsible for the IT fixed assets.  This involves tracking and reconciling the IT Construction in Progress (CIP) activity, and the timely processing of IT fixed asset additions, disposals, and change functions.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • The Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for variance analysis of the Consolidated Balance Sheet.  This person will need to be able to evaluate changes in the balance sheet, determine what events are worth reporting (material or unique) to executive leadership, and prepare the commentary for the Balance Sheet presentation explaining month over month and quarter over quarter variances.

  • The Senior Accountant Position completes monthly variance analysis of the profit and loss statement for the IT business units.  This involves tracking at a vendor level all invoices that have been paid versus budgeted/forecasted expense to ensure that the proper accounting treatment is applied and that all known accruals are recorded and trued up in a timely manner. This person will need to be able to evaluate changes in the profit and loss statement and identify the events to be reported (material or unique) to the appropriate department. In addition, The Senior Corporate Accountant will be responsible for the IT expense accruals and reclass journal entries. 

  • The Senior Corporate Accountant will be responsible for the Concur accounting processes.  This will involve resolving all daily JDE posting errors to ensure the T&E and PCard expense activity is accurately posted.  Blackline reconciliations will be performed at a transaction level to ensure all variances are identified and resolved monthly. This person will maintain the JDE Concur mapping tables, resolve all T&E/PCard questions, and participate in any development activities.

  • The Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for balance sheet reconciliations of greater complexity, requiring the ability to understand the purpose of the account and can take a high-level perspective in determining that the accounts are appropriately stated.  This will involve research as well as ensuring that all correcting journal entries are posted timely.

  • Assist in the maintenance of documentation of policies, procedures, and controls. Perform other duties as assigned and other projects as necessary. 

What you need to succeed:

  • Proven accounting experience in a demanding work environment

  • Manufacturing accounting background

  • Experience with Financial Statement preparation

  • Active Certified Public Accountant

  • MBA
