Director, Shared Service Accounting  - Atlanta, GA

The opportunity:

 

The Director, Shared Service Accounting is a newly created role that will be responsible for leading and developing a Record to Report ("R2R") shared services organization, incorporating a high-performing team of approximately 40 accounting professionals and reporting to the VP, Accounting Operations.  This individual will oversee all aspects of shared services accounting and support for customer, sales representative and broker incentives, monthly accruals, fixed assets, cash & banking and corporate functions support.

 

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Provide management oversight and leadership to the R2R shared service accounting team comprising:

    • Customer, sales representative and broker sales incentives team that handles the calculation, controls, payment requests and monthly accruals.  Work closely with Sales & Pricing Operations and Divisional teams to ensure that contractual arrangements are identified and monitored for compliance.

    • The fixed asset team that manages all the accounting and reporting for ~$14B of fixed assets, including capital approval monitoring, tracking and project set-up for all capital spend worldwide.  Fixed asset scope also includes tax basis calculations and reporting, integration and purchase accounting activities.

    • The treasury accounting team that manages cash and banking journal entries and reconciliations, accounting for corporate debt and other income and expenses.

    • A shared service accounting team that manages the accounting and monthly accruals for North American operations and corporate for areas such as:  payroll, certain benefit accounts, utilities and goods receipt accruals, temporary labor and facilities including leases for 100+ locations, aviation as well as accounting support for the IT & Procurement functions which include managing monthly accruals, IT project tracking, enterprise level procurement rebates and Concur reconciliations.

  • Evaluate R2R activities distributed across the business and develop and implement a plan to migrate relevant activities to the shared services organization where common policies and processes can be applied.

  • Develop and document standard operating procedures, service level agreements, service billing methodology, metrics and governance mechanisms with key stakeholders.

  • Cultivate a shared service culture focused on improving speed, efficiency and controls.

  • Develop a recruiting and talent management strategy for the R2R shared services organization.

  • Responsible for integrating acquired businesses into the R2R shared services model.

  • Support internal and external audits and SOX compliance process.

  • Partner with IT on identifying and implementing robotics and automation opportunities.

  • Manage the relationship and governance of third-party providers that support the R2R shared service team.

  • Scope will be focused on US & Canada but will be responsible for providing global leadership for R2R shared services policy and process.

  • Manage team budget and monthly forecast updates.

 

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field from an accredited university, MBA and/or CPA is desired.
  • 15 + years of progressively more complex roles in Accounting, preferably some within a shared service environment.
  • Accountable with a hands-on and tactical approach to accomplishing results.
  • Experience leading, developing and motivating large teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and experience driving large transformational projects.
  • System savvy – able to pull and manipulate data for a variety of purposes in a complex systems landscape.  Experience with JD Edwards / SAP / Radius / Hyperion HFM and Essbase / Blackline a plus.
  • Customer service / continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills – listening, compiling facts and building consensus to bring conclusion to issues.
  • Strong project and change management skills, preferably experience implementing shared services.
  • Experience with robotic process automation desired.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable
